The Aboriginal Procurement Policy Second Year Performance Report was released today and showcases the policy's performance during the 2019-20 financial year.
The policy has been hugely successful in realising its aim of improving the economic prosperity of Aboriginal businesses, their suppliers, sub-contractors and the broader Aboriginal community.
Over $172 million in contracts were awarded to 104 Aboriginal businesses across Western Australia, including 143 contracts awarded in regional locations. The policy is continuing to successfully support the economic and business development of regional communities.
The policy is administered by the Department of Finance and its implementation has been supported by two Aboriginal Business Expos and a Capability Building Program. These initiatives showcase Aboriginal businesses and their available services, and facilitate connections between government agencies and the Aboriginal business sector.
During the 2020-21 financial year, the policy's third year, the target will increase to three per cent. We will continue to support the Aboriginal business sector and advise agencies on how to implement the policy to meet the increased target.
