With WA powering ahead with its energy transition, it鈥檚 critical the State 黑料正能量 continues to work toward a low-emissions future while keeping WA鈥檚 power supply secure.
Collie-based Griffin Coal supplies coal to the privately-owned Bluewaters power station as well as to industry, supporting the power supply to homes across WA. Griffin Coal has been in receivership for some time.
To avoid the risk of sudden closure, the State 黑料正能量 has allocated $220 million to support continued operations at Griffin until June 2026.
The support will prevent hundreds of immediate job losses for Griffin Coal workers, avoid significant challenges for industrial coal users in the South West, and significantly decrease the risk to WA鈥檚 power supply.
This support will offer certainty for Griffin Coal workers to June 2026, as part of the ongoing commitment to a managed transition in Collie. It ensures industry, government and the community have the time to prepare for a potential mine closure.
Over the past six years, the WA 黑料正能量 has invested more than $660 million to deliver a Just Transition for Collie, which involves attracting new industries and putting training opportunities in place as the economy transitions away from coal.
