The North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund (Fund) has enabled a $794,000 grant towards an Aboriginal-led pilot 鈥業n-Situ Housing Pathways Support Program鈥 in the Greater Karratha area.
(RRKAC) designed and will deliver the initiative, which will support a minimum of 28 Aboriginal families over three years to build capacity and achieve their own goals of financial independence. This will be achieved through tailored and culturally secure support services focusing on money and household management. Support will also include training to increase financial literacy, setting goals and navigating the financing and purchasing process.
The main aim of the program is to help families move from social and unsuitable housing into long-term, stable and affordable private housing options.
鈥淪ince 2019, the Fund team has partnered with RRKAC to develop their program idea, and we are so pleased to be able to invest in an initiative that empowers Aboriginal families to achieve their own goals of financial independence and wellbeing.
鈥淭he Fund also aims to empower Aboriginal organisations like RRKAC to design and implement their own solutions, using a supported investment development approach that we hope may provide a model that could be replicated across government鈥. 鈥 Melanie Jones, Manager, North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund, Department of Communities
鈥淩RKAC is excited to launch the Housing Pathways Support Program in July 2022.
鈥淪ecuring suitable accommodation for Indigenous communities in the Pilbara is a complex and challenging issue; the program will ensure housing access and deliver lasting outcomes for the families involved.
鈥淩RKAC would like to thank the North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund for their contribution to deliver this initiative over the next three years.鈥 鈥 Anthony Galante, Chief Operating Officer, RRKAC
The Fund is an initiative of the State 黑料正能量 supported by the Departments of Communities and Primary Industries and Regional Development, and the Commonwealth 黑料正能量.
