- The Road Safety Commission and RAC are co-funding $150,000 via a dedicated National Road Safety Week grant round
- Eligible events and projects to commence during National Road Safety week 2022
The Road Safety Commission is encouraging eligible community groups to apply for a grant to fund initiatives occurring during which promote road safety.
The $150,000 in funding from the Road Safety Commission and the RAC provides an opportunity the community to take part in National Road Safety Week (15 May to 22 May 2022).
NRSW is an initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, partnering road safety organisations and government to highlight the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
The Road Safety Community Grant Program 鈥 which supports the development and implementation of sustainable projects and one-off community activities related to road safety 鈥 is now open, with funding available for activities occurring during National Road Safety Week.
Historically the NRSW grants have only been events-based grants, however this year they have been extended to provide project grants to further support the promotion of road safety.
Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner said these grants are a support for communities to address local road safety issues.
National Road Safety Week is a time where many communities can highlight the impact of road trauma in their local area and think about ways in which it can be reduced.
The dedicated National Road Safety Week (NRSW) grants are available in two categories:
- Events ($50,000 allocated) 鈥 up to $5,000 available for community events or road safety initiatives carried out during National Road Safety Week. Event applicants must choose a NRSW theme as part of their application
- Legacy projects ($100,000 allocated) 鈥 up to $25,000 available to community groups who are activating a road safety initiative within regional communities to recognise 10 years of National Road Safety Week.
The grant round will remain open until 18 February 2022.
Adrian Warner welcomes the partnership with RAC which can make a real difference in addressing unique road safety issues within small communities.
鈥淭hrough these grants we have seen one-off events become so popular they have become annual community events, bringing people together for a common goal.鈥
RAC Group Executive Social and Community Impact Patrick Walker said the grants would empower local communities to support and celebrate 10 years of National Road Safety Week.
鈥淭he number of Western Australians tragically killed and seriously injured on our roads leaves a widespread and lasting impact on families and communities across our State.鈥
鈥淲e can all play a part in making our roads safer and we can鈥檛 wait to see the creative road safety events and initiatives that will raise awareness and help save lives and stop serious injuries on our roads.鈥
