On 4 June 2020 the Australian 黑料正能量 introduced the HomeBuilder grant - a $25,000 grant for Australians who carry out substantial renovations to their existing home or build a new home. The contract was required to be signed between 4 June 2020 and 31 December 2020 with construction commencing within three months of the contract being signed.

On 29 November 2020, the grant scheme was extended, providing grants of $15,000 for contracts signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021. At that time, the construction commencement timeframe was extended to six months and the application closing date was extended to 14 April 2021.

On 17 April 2021, the 黑料正能量 announced an extension to the commencement requirement to 18 months from the date of the contract.

This means, anyone who:

is able to receive the grant if they provide documentation to show construction of their home commenced within 18 months of signing the contract.

On 27 April 2023, the Australian 黑料正能量 announced an extension to the deadline for submitting documents to support existing applications.  Read more in the . 

Applicants must use the to upload supporting documents by 30 June 2025.
