About

The Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program will provide ACCOs in the Pilbara and Kimberley with grant funding to build, refurbish, or buy homes to provide as affordable rentals to their Aboriginal employees.

The program supports the valuable work of ACCOs across the North-West by providing secure and stable housing for Aboriginal employees and their families and will enable those employees to improve their income and financial wellbeing as they are supported by their employer to achieve their career goals.

The grant application period has now closed.

Grant guidelines

Consultation with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCOs) across the North-West resulted in the development of a grants framework that aligns with community needs and priorities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all participants for the invaluable contributions and insights during regional consultations.

ACCOs provided valuable input into the design of the grant guidelines. Key outcomes of the feedback are included in the guidelines:

  • ACCOs with access to land were encouraged to lodge submissions for funding to build on their land with grants also available to allow existing homes to be bought and/or unoccupied homes to be refurbished.
  • A funding cap per dwelling is applied for new builds and applications that include co-contributions were encouraged.
  • Co-contributions that are funded directly by ACCOs or from a third party (i.e. a lender or other grantor) were considered, to maximise the accessibility of the grant program.
  • Innovative construction methods and building typologies (dwelling type and size) were welcomed, providing an opportunity for applicants to minimise construction costs.
  • Grants also allow existing homes to be bought and/or currently unoccupied homes to be refurbished.
  • No specific service sector was targeted or preferred – rather applicants were encouraged to demonstrate the value of the services they deliver and the positive impact on their service delivery that the additional home(s) would have.
  • Partnership and consortium applications were welcomed to maximise the number of ACCOs who are able to benefit from the grant funding.
  • The evaluation of the grant submissions will be conducted by a panel that includes Aboriginal people with regional expertise.
