This Statement provides guidance about what contractors, subcontractors and suppliers can expect when conducting business with the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS), and the ethical standards we apply. It also sets out our expectations of those who do business with us.
The mission of DEMIRS is to support a safe, fair and responsible future for the Western Australian community, industry, energy and resources sector.
What you can expect from us
We will:
- act lawfully and in a professional and responsible manner;
- comply with any legislation, policies and procedures set for the public sector;
- act in accordance with the Public Sector Code of Ethics, our Code of Conduct and departmental values;
- treat you fairly, ethically, and with transparency;
- not seek or accept financial and non-financial gifts or benefits for performing our official duties;
- declare and manage any situations that involve or could be perceived to involve a conflict of interest;
- protect and responsibly manage the department’s and State’s resources;
- protect personal and commercial in confidence information;
- have open and accountable procurement processes;
- use local suppliers where possible;
- pay you for services provided, in a timely manner in accordance with contractual documentation;
- review contracts regularly to ensure value for money;
- utilise opportunities to achieve improvements in our operations;
- monitor, report and address unethical behaviour, misconduct and corruption; and
- work cooperatively with you to resolve any disputes.
What we expect from you
You will:
- act lawfully and understand and comply with policies, procedures and practices, conditions and requirements stated in documents supplied by us;
- act with integrity, being fair, respectful and transparent in your dealings with us and not engage in any form of collusion;
- not offer our staff financial or non-financial gifts or benefits;
- disclose any actual, potential and perceived conflicts of interest and work with the department to implement an appropriate management strategy;
- act responsibly when using DEMIRS’ resources and provide reliable advice and accurate information upon request;
- not make a statement or behave in a way that could mislead others to believe you are representing or expressing a view of the department, without the appropriate authority;
- take all reasonable measures to prevent the disclosure of confidential information;
- respect our intellectual property rights and formally negotiate any use of them;
- provide value for money for goods or services provided;
- provide timely, accurate tax invoices as per contractual documentation;
- manage business risks to prevent fraud and corruption and act in accordance with the terms and conditions of contractual documentation; and
- report unethical behaviour, misconduct and corruption involving DEMIRS staff.

Public interest disclosure
