Whole-of-ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ ACCO Strategy
The WA ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ has launched a whole-of-ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿ Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisation (ACCO) strategy.
Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) are critical to the delivery of community services, particularly to Aboriginal people across a wide range of sectors including, health, mental health, housing, family support, disability support, justice, youth engagement, education, training and child protection.
When ACCOs are involved in planning, designing and delivering services, Aboriginal people are more likely to engage with those services and likely to experience better outcomes. This is because ACCOs are accountable and connected to their local communities.
The ACCO Strategy sets the policy direction to support ACCOs to take on delivery of services for Aboriginal people and empower Aboriginal people in Western Australia to be able to access place-based, community-led and culturally secure services that are planned, designed and delivered by strong and sustainable ACCOs.
Sector Strengthening Grants
The WA ºÚÁÏÕýÄÜÁ¿, in partnership with Lotterywest, has launched a new grants program calling for ideas from Aboriginal community–controlled organisations (ACCOs) to improve priority community services.
Not-for-profit ACCOs anywhere in WA can now apply for a share of grants from the $3.4 million Closing the Gap funding, with applications invited from organisations who want to improve, expand or develop initiatives across priority areas that include housing, health, disability, and early childhood care and development sectors.
The sector strengthening grant program will help ACCOs progress towards targets and outcomes in the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
The grant criteria and guidelines were developed with the input of the Social Services Committee of the Aboriginal Health Council of WA, which is working to develop a WA peak body for the ACCO sector.
Lotterywest will administer the grants program, and work with ACCOs to explore their idea, and if it aligns, work in partnership to develop a strong grant application.
The grants will go towards strengthening the Aboriginal community-controlled sector to deliver high-quality, sustainable services and outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities.
