Welcome to the website for the Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission of Western Australia.

The Office of the Parliamentary Inspector of the Corruption and Crime Commission was established on 1 January 2004 through Part 13 of what is now called the .

The Corruption, Crime and Misconduct Act 2003 sets out the Parliamentary Inspector’s functions and powers.

These functions include auditing the operations of the Commission for the purpose of monitoring compliance with the laws of Western Australia, assessing the effectiveness and appropriateness of the Corruption and Crime Commission’s procedures and dealing with matters of misconduct on the part of the Commission and its officers. 

The Parliamentary Inspector may investigate any aspect of the Commission’s operations or any conduct of its officers and is entitled to full access to the Commission’s records.

In addition, the Office of the Parliamentary Inspector makes recommendations to the Corruption and Crime Commission, independent agencies and appropriate authorities. The Parliamentary Inspector also reports and makes recommendations to Parliament and the Joint Standing Committee on the Corruption and Crime Commission. The current Parliamentary Inspector is Matthew Zilko SC, who commenced his five-year term on 23 November 2020.

Making a complaint about the Corruption and Crime Commission

Members of the public can make complaints about the conduct of the Corruption and Crime Commission and its officers to the Parliamentary Inspector.

The Parliamentary Inspector cannot overturn a decision made by the Commission other than in respect of an officer of the Commission. However, the Corruption, Crime and Misconduct Act 2003 empowers the Parliamentary Inspector to deal with matters of misconduct on the part of the Commission and its officers, and to assess the effectiveness and appropriateness of the Commission’s procedures. Where necessary, the Parliamentary Inspector can seek a review of the Commission’s conclusions about matters it has investigated.
