Applications for in-house electrical installation licensing.
New Fit and Proper Assessment Criteria

The Electrical Licensing Board has adopted an updated Fit and proper assessment criteria for the issue of licences and permits policy that will come into effect Wednesday 4 December 2024.

The policy requires all new electrician, electrical training, electrical permit or restricted electrical licence applicants to provide an Australian police check with their application. The police check must be no more than three months old and from an accepted provider.

The requirements do not apply for applications to renew an existing electrical worker's licence.

Applications for in-house electrical installation licensing

In Western Australia, the provide that electrical contracting work may only be carried out by persons with the appropriate electrical contractor鈥檚 licence, as issued by the Electrical Licensing Board.

Regulation 38 provides for the issue of an In-House Electrical Installing Work Licence where an employer engages or employs an electrical worker to carry out electrical installing work other than maintenance work in respect only of premises owned, leased, or occupied by the employer.
