Water and Environmental Regulation one-stop shop

We are a one-stop shop for information about water licensing, environment regulation and environmental assessments.
Last updated:

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is responsible for environmental and water regulation in line with legislation. This includes:

  • works approvals and operating licences for prescribed industrial premises
  • native vegetation clearing permits
  • water licence and permit approvals.

We also provide services to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), which conducts assessments under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (EP Act).

Significant proposals that require multiple approvals

Significant proposals that are referred to the EPA for assessment may also require other environmental and water-related approvals. Find out more about how parallel decision-making improves our assessment processes where multiple approvals are required.

Preparing your application

We encourage you to provide detailed, quality information with your referral and applications to streamline your assessment and reduce timeframes. Our Regulatory documents webpage provides helpful information to assist with preparing your application.
